Mission City Boxing comes home with four provincial champions.
In the Junior Division 13 year old Cody Brown 46 kg. and 15 year old Jessy Brown 60 kg. In the Youth Division Sean McIntosh 16 years old and 60 kg. In the Senior Division Shaun Kroeker 81 kg.
It was a very exciting weekend for Mission City Boxing in Kelowna, where the Provincial Championships were held on November 21 and 22.
Shaun Kroeker fought David Robertson from the Astoria Boxing Club in a bout that was voted 'Fight of the Night.' Shaun gave up about five inches in height, so we worked on trying to get inside on David. However David was determined to stay on the outside and use his long arms to keep Shaun away from him. After the first round, the score was 5 - 3 for Shaun. In the second round, we told Shaun to cut off the ring and not give David room to move around. Shaun was able to do that to some extent, but David was able to move in and hold Shaun in one place. After the second round the score was 10 - 6 for Shaun. We realized that David would have to engage if he wanted to come back and win the fight. So it turned into a brawl style of boxing, which is where Shaun feels most comfortable. Shaun was able to take David's punches and be in range to throw his own. Shaun backed David up a few times with heavy punches and came away with an 18 -11 victory.
Now all four boxers will be training hard for the Nationals. The Senior Nationals will be held in Quebec in January and the Junior Nationals will be held in Halifax in February.
